Marvelous game by Shaheen Afridi
It was a slow pitch, but Shaheen Afridi came at a giddy pace, as he too hoicked Shakib Al Hasan for a maximum over mid-on in the penultimate over.
The burly Pakistan paceman then scampered across to his left to catch Soumya Sarkar. Bangladesh, who are now knocked out of the tournament, had been floundering at 116 for seven in pursuit of Pakistan’s 123 all out.
Runs made by Bangladeshi team
Najmul Shanto was the only Bangladesh player to make it past 24 runs, with 54 from 48 . Shanto struck seven fours, but the Bangladesh innings began to falter in the 11th over when Soumya Sarkar (20) and captain Shakib Al Hasan (0) were both dismissed by spinner Shadab Khan (2-30)
Afridi’s formidable fast bowling led Pakistan to victory, as only opener Najmul Shanto (54 from 48 ) withstood the storm – he was the only Bangladesh player to make it past 24 runs.
Pakistani bating
Pakistan made light work of their chase after Mohammad Rizwan was dropped on the third ball of the innings – wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan turfed a regulation edge from Taskin Ahmed’s bowling.
Rizwan hit the next ball for six with a top-edged hook end route to scoring 32 from 32 deliveries.
Babar and Rizwan’s partnership
Rizwan and his captain Babar Azam (25 from 33 ) notched a composed half-century opening partnership in the 10th over.
The pair were soon after dismissed in a five-ball span, leaving Mohammad Harris (31 from 18) and Shan Masood (24no from 14) to guide Pakistan to victory.
